The Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition is an international research and design challenge for 15-18 year old pre-university students. This is a prestigious educational opportunity for students across the world that challenges students to be innovative while encouraging their passion for the sciences and we want to invite students from Czech Republic to participate in this year's competition!

What's New for 2019?

For the history of this competition, there has been one broad category for students to compete in against all other entrees. But in the last few years we have experienced incredible growth, and that has led us to decide to introduce two categories for this year! Mitigating the Effects of Climate Change and Resource Preservation are the two topics teams may choose from. This will allow us to have twice as many finalists, which means twice as many prizes! We are incredibly excited for this new phase of the competition, and our most recent blog post goes over this in much more detail.

Competition Information

Each year, the Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition encourages scientific understanding of real-world issues and the integration of environmentally responsible energy sources. This year focuses on looking past the negative outlook many seem to possess, and focus on the greener tomorrow we know will eventually come.

  • Teams consist of 1-3 students, are assisted by a Team Leader (i.e. parent, teacher, or mentor), to develop a written proposal.
  • There is no entry fee.
  • Registration open now!
  • First Round consists of written Paper Submissions
  • 10 Finalist Teams in each category are selected, given a $200 stipend and matched with a Mentor to help them prepare a Prototype and presentation for the Finalist Event.
  • Finalists compete for the $10,000 grand prize in each category and 'Continued Mentorship'
  • Official Competition website https://www.cstl.org/cleantech/

How can your students get involved?

To help bring the Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition to your country and schools, we ask that you share information about this opportunity with students, fellow educators, and parents. More official documents will be coming soon and available on the Competition's website, but now is the time to introduce them to the website and have them do a little research into past competitions. Our blog is a cache of information from a different angle as well and keep checking back for updates as they come, and we have the perfect flyer to post to inspire interest.

2018 saw the largest number of nations EVER participate and Clean Tech continues to grow! There were 556 teams from 39 different countries participated. Along with the 39 countries, the final round had five different nations represented (Peru, Ireland, Singapore, Australia, and the US) and competing for first prize! We are incredibly proud of this list, and would be honored if students from Czech Republic were to join in making this year better than the last.

If you have any questions regarding the competition details, or how to incorporate the competition into your curriculum, please contact us. We look forward to having participants representing Czech Republic in the Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition this year and in the future! Check the website for updates!
